Covid-19 Cannot Stop Marshall Elementary From Celebrating Peace

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day"), September 21, is a global celebration of peace. The idea of an established day of peace began with Jeremy Gilley, founder of the non-profit organization, Peace One Day. In 1981, the United Nations passed by unanimous resolution September 21 as the International Day of Peace. Since 1981, September 21 is a globally shared date of commitment to peace. The International Day of Peace has reached billions of people around the world. 2021 is the 19th year the International Day of Peace has been celebrated in and around Rockford.

4th grade students from Thurgood Marshall Elementary traditionally celebrate the International Day of Peace with hundreds of other students at Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza. Covid-19 could not stop these students from celebrating Peace by contributing to the idoprockford.com website. Marshall Elementary students sang about peace, wrote about peace, and shared their vision of peace. Some of their personal reflection and song can be viewed in this video .

May Peace Prevail on Earth!
